Tin Hau Temple became a classroom for students from the Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. On January 18, 2020, Erik Hammerstrom, Associate Professor of East Asian and Comparative Religion, brought 16 students to Lum Sai Ho Tong to learn about Daoism and Chinese religious practices. In their briefing they were told about the history of Tin Hau Temple in Hawaii and how it is tied to the Lum clan. They toured the temple where they experienced divination first-hand using fortune sticks and invoking the goddess Tin Hau to answer their questions.

Many thanks to Professor Erik Hammerstrom who reached out to us via our website and coordinated this effort to give his students a unique, and hopefully memorable learning experience.
